MadeInFrance, simple folding knives with a wooden handle and (on some models) simple locking-ring mechanism at the top to hold the blade in place. Various sizes. Sold by model numbers. Coghlan's sells a variety of the No 08 as a camping knife - I found it in the sporting goods -> camping section at McGuckin Hardware in sort of generic green card + plastic bubble packaging, for around $17 after tax. It was near the cookware & eating utensils, far from the knife case.

The No 08 looks to be about 4.25" long when closed, and 7.5" when open. Not huge, but potentially within striking distance of the guy-becomes-creepy-by-having-too-large-a-knife phenomenon.
