Graywater is basically "used" fresh water - the result of taking showers, washing dishes and laundry, that sort of thing. The idea is that it ought to be recycled for purposes like watering ornamental plants and gardens, since it's not fundamentally ''that'' dirty, or shunted back into uses like flushing the toilet, since there's no good reason to use clean, potable water on shit.
