<[Alan]> Way cool. When do we get to see maps / data / maps + data?
<[Brennen]> Sadly, our onboard logging media bit the dust. There were two separate GPS units going (including one of [http://www.findmespot.com these guys]) and we have some transmissions logged from the payload, but it's all kinda frustratingly incomplete.
Dave wants to do at least two more launches - one similar to this, and one [http://www.eoss.org/faq/zero_pressure.htm zero pressure balloon] from Northern California. We'll probably go all out on mapping/logging for those.
<[Alan]> Sweet. So with the zero pressure balloon, are you going to use an arduino to control dropping of ballast / keeping it out of airspace? The link doesn't really say how people have done this in the past.
<[Brennen]> That's the plan, yeah. Release a little ethanol at a time from a ballast tank. I heard some muttering about a three-liter bottle earlier today.
Some lazy linking on my part up there - check out [http://whitestarballoon.com/ White Star Balloons] for a similar but more ambitious zero pressure project. Dave's been following their progress and borrowing tech ideas for a while, I think.
There's a pretty dedicated (not to say fanatically obsessive) 'net community around this stuff. A lot of it seems to happen on mailing lists and IRC more than the web.
