Created in England by [[A. S. Neill]], author of ''Summerhill: A Radical Approach To Childrearing''.  Began (we think) in 1921 and caused a whole range of reactions and responses, some of which came from future founders of FreeSchools.  There was a rash of FreeSchools in the [[1960's]], most of which died soon thereafter...although several survived.  Of these, the oldest are PlayMountainPlace in LosAngelesCalifornia and AlbanyFreeSchool in AlbanyNewYork.
