There were actually (at least) two important variants on QuickBasic - QBasic, the IDE/interpreter that came free with DOS, and QuickBasic 4.5, a slightly more robust version that was capable of producing compiled executables.

On the other hand, it's pretty much the only IDE I've ever liked, and for years it was the only readily available language/interpreter that I was aware of on the DOS / Windows 3.x PCs I was stuck with as a kid.
