- Anything along these lines that I'm interested in works to increase available public knowledge while generating income for researchers, rather than creating some kind of WalledGarden with an entrance fee. I come across these things a lot when I'm searching for a solution to some specific software problem, where more or less my exact issue is posted with a "join to see the answer" link. This is kind of infuriating, and even in situations where I would gladly pay for a quick fix I can't actually bring myself to underwrite it. It feels to me like there's a moral imperative of some kind that this stuff should be openly accessible on the web.
