  2. <[[Brennen]]> Sooner or later you realize that the right tools make all the difference in the world. Here's a hypothetical list of the stuff that should be in my toolbox.
  3. * General-purpose hammer.
  4. * Multiple screwdrivers: Phillips, flat head, and a square drive.
  5. * Pliers: The ordinary sort, the needlenose sort, and a pair of vice-grips.
  6. * Tape measure, as well as some kind of rigid straight-edge.
  7. * Hatchet or machete, if not both. (Functions may overlap, but the former can split firewood and drive stakes, while the latter is what you will miss when murdering weeds.)
  8. * Hand saw (sharp).
  9. * Socket set.
  10. * Wrench set.
  11. * Small pry bar.
  12. * Hex keys.
  13. * Level.
  14. * Chalkline.
  15. * Pencil or crayon, something that can leave a nice heavy line.
  16. * Wood chisel.
  17. * Nail set.
  18. * Putty knife / scraper.
  19. * Roll each of duct, electrical, drywall, and plumber's tape.
  20. * Couple rolls of different gauges of wire.
  21. * Box of miscellaneous fasteners (screws, nails, small brads, nuts and bolts, some of those little velcro fastener things).
  22. * Wood or rubber mallet.
  23. * Sandpaper.
  24. * Rasp/file.
  25. * Whetstone.
  26. * Can of WD-40.
  27. * Packet of wooden shims.
  28. Additionally, there are some things in the "too big for a box, but maybe not for the trunk of my car" category.
  29. * Sledgehammer and/or maul.
  30. * Large pry / wrecking / crow bar.
  31. * Jack.
  32. What am I leaving out?
