  57. Despite its fantastic setting, <cite>Babylon 5</cite> is at its core a story
  58. about people, about the choices they make and the consequences of those
  59. choices. <cite>Babylon 5</cite>'s characters are as interesting and varied
  60. as the situations they encounter.

  63. <img align="middle" src="/lurk/gif/chars/sheridan.gif" width=80 height=100>
  64. Captain John Sheridan
  65. -
  66. <a href="/lurk/making/cast.html#boxleitner">Bruce Boxleitner</a>
  67. <dd>
  68. The commander of Babylon 5 and representative of the Earth Alliance.
  69. One of the few heroes of the Earth-Minbari War, Sheridan scored Earth's only
  70. major victory of the war, something which has earned him the hatred of the
  71. Minbari warrior caste, though since his appointment he has generally gotten
  72. along with the Minbari. Sheridan leads a cell
  73. of an anti-Government resistance movement aboard Babylon 5. When he found
  74. out that the Shadows were responsible for the loss of his wife Anna, he
  75. pledged himself to help defeat them. Along with
  76. Delenn, Sheridan is in charge of the Rangers on Babylon 5.

  80. Commander Susan Ivanova
  81. -
  82. <a href="/lurk/making/cast.html#christian">Claudia Christian</a>
  83. <dd>
  84. Second in command and in charge of the day-to-day operations of Babylon 5,
  85. Ivanova is an ambitious career officer. She can be quirky or
  86. pessimistic at times, but she has a dry sense of humor that shows
  87. itself in the rare moments she is able to relax among others. Born in
  88. St. Petersburg, Russia, and raised abroad on Earth, Ivanova is a latent
  89. telepath, "not even a P1," but has spent her life hiding her talent from
  90. Psi Corps after their legally-mandated drug treatments drove her mother
  91. to suicide.

  94. <img align="middle" src="/lurk/gif/chars/garibaldi.gif" width=80 height=100>
  95. Security Chief Michael Garibaldi
  96. -
  97. <a href="/lurk/making/cast.html#doyle">Jerry Doyle</a>
  98. <dd>
  99. In charge of security on Babylon 5. Though he has a troubled past, bouncing
  100. from position to position and trying to overcome alcoholism, he seems to
  101. have found his home on Babylon 5. Garibaldi is something of a smart-aleck,
  102. always ready to crack a joke, but given to bouts of self-doubt and
  103. introspection when nobody's looking. His natural sense of paranoia wasn't
  104. reduced when he was shot in the back last year by his own second-in-command
  105. while he was investigating the death of President Santiago. He is working
  106. with Sheridan in the fight against the corruption on Earth.
  107. <p>
  108. <dt>
  109. <img align="middle" src="/lurk/gif/chars/franklin.gif" width=80 height=100>
  110. Dr. Stephen Franklin
  111. -
  112. <a href="/lurk/making/cast.html#biggs">Richard Biggs</a>
  113. <dd>
  114. Dedicated and assured, a specialist in xenobiology (alien biology), and
  115. in charge of Medlab on Babylon 5. His background is mainly in
  116. experimental medicine, so his bedside manner is occasionally not what
  117. it should be. His strong sense of personal morality is at times in
  118. conflict with his duties as the chief medical provider for aliens from
  119. hundreds of worlds and cultures, some of whom view his obligations
  120. rather differently. Dr. Franklin is known to operate outside the rules
  121. when he feel the issue is important. He runs a free clinic in the
  122. Downbelow section for those who cannot afford medical care; he also
  123. serves on an "underground railroad" for telepaths who do not want to be
  124. found by the Psi Corps. In his middle thirties now, he spent years
  125. hitchhiking through space, offering his medical services in exchange
  126. for the opportunity to examine new life forms.

  129. <img align="middle" src="/lurk/gif/chars/delenn-2.gif" width=80 height=100>

  131. -
  132. <a href="/lurk/making/cast.html#furlan">Mira Furlan</a>
  133. <dd>
  134. Represents the Minbari. Once a member of Minbar's ruling body, the Grey
  135. Council, she lost her position after her controversial decision, following
  136. a prophecy, to undergo a transformation that gave her human characteristics.
  137. Religious, with a strong sense of fate and justice,
  138. she believes that she is the chosen one, who will lead in the upcoming fight
  139. against the Shadows.
  140. <p>
  141. <dt>
  142. <img align="middle" src="/lurk/gif/chars/londo.gif" width=80 height=100>
  143. Ambassador Londo Mollari
  144. -
  145. <a href="/lurk/making/cast.html#jurasik">Peter Jurasik</a>
  146. <dd>
  147. The representative of the Centauri Republic. Once on an inconsequential
  148. assignment, Londo has become one of his government's most powerful figures
  149. due to a Faustian bargain struck with new "friends" he knew nothing about,
  150. a deal that has spun far out of control. With their help, and the help of
  151. a few other ambitious Centauri, his government decimated the once
  152. powerful Narn Regime. Once jovial and indulgent, Londo is now deadly
  153. serious as he comes to realize what the consequences of his association
  154. with the Shadows really are.
  155. <p>
  156. <dt>
  157. <img align="middle" src="/lurk/gif/chars/gkar.gif" width=80 height=100>
  158. G'Kar
  159. -
  160. <a href="/lurk/making/cast.html#katsulas">Andreas Katsulas</a>
  161. <dd>
  162. The ambassador of the Narn Regime when there was a Narn Regime to represent,
  163. G'Kar is now a fugitive, wanted by the Centauri Republic. Sheridan granted
  164. him asylum on Babylon 5, which G'Kar is using as a base of operations from
  165. which to organize a movement to retake his homeworld from the Centauri.
  166. With limited resources, his authority challenged by the other Narn, G'Kar's
  167. position is truly desperate. Ironically, he was among the first to realize
  168. that the Shadows were helping the Centauri, but nobody heeded his warnings.
  169. G'Kar is well-read, deeply spiritual, and extremely intelligent.

  172. <img align="middle" src="/lurk/gif/chars/kosh.gif" width=80 height=100>

  176. <dd>
  177. Native voice
  178. designed by Chris Franke.<br>
  179. English translation: Ardwight Chamberlain.
  180. <p>
  181. In order to save Sheridan's Life, Kosh finally has shown himself outside of
  182. his encounter suit, which he would wear even in his own methane-filled
  183. quarters when receiving visitors. Kosh is still very much an enigma;
  184. to many species, he appears as a holy being of light -- an
  185. angel, for instance. Kosh has taken a great interest in Sheridan, and is
  186. attempting to train him for the upcoming fight against the Shadows. He
  187. communicates through a complex sequence of musical tones, translated into
  188. English by a device on his encounter suit. When he speaks, his words are
  189. few and sound cryptic, but often have a strange truth to them.
