  57. <h2><a name="where">Where to write to show support for Babylon 5</a></h2>
  58. Since syndicated shows are purchased by individual stations, the most
  59. important place to write to show your support for B5 is your
  60. <a href="http://www.babylon5.com/cmp/support/airtime.htm">local TV station.</a>
  61. See also the
  62. <a href="/lurk/support/index.html">B5 Support Page</a>
  63. for information about any ongoing letter-writing campaigns.
  64. <p>
  65. To reach Warner Bros., which distributes the show, write to either or both of:
  66. <blockquote><address>
  67. Dick Robertson<br>
  68. President<br>
  69. Domestic Television Distribution<br>
  70. Warner Bros. Television<br>
  71. 4000 Warner Boulevard<br>
  72. Burbank, CA 91522<br>
  73. USA
  74. <p>
  75. Robert Daly, Chairman<br>
  76. Warner Brothers, Inc.<br>
  77. 4000 Warner Boulevard<br>
  78. Burbank, CA 91522</address></blockquote>
  79. <p>
  80. But remember, Warner Bros. already wants B5 to succeed. It's the local
  81. stations that determine whether the show will be made -- if enough of them sign
  82. up to buy it, it'll continue to be produced, and if they don't, it won't, no
  83. matter how many letters Warner Bros. gets from fans. So please write your
  84. local station first if you want to support B5.
  85. <p>
  86. To reach JMS or other members of the cast and crew, write to:
  87. <blockquote><address>
  88. J. Michael Straczynski<br>
  89. C/O BABYLON 5<br>
  90. 14431 Ventura Blvd., Suite 260<br>
  91. Sherman Oaks, CA 91423-2606<br>
  92. USA</address></blockquote>
  93. <p>
  94. The "c/o Babylon 5" is very important -- your letter may be discarded in
  95. the mailroom if that's not there.
  96. <p>
  97. JMS is also reachable online at <code>straczynski@genie.geis.com</code>.
  98. Please check the Guide before asking about a particular episode; your
  99. question may already be answered.
  100. JMS gets a lot of mail, so don't expect a personal reply. Also, if you have
  101. a question of general interest, please post it to rec.arts.sf.tv.babylon5
  102. instead of mailing it to JMS; that way everyone can benefit from the answer.
  103. <p>
  104. <hr>
  105. <h2><a name="scripts">How do I submit a script?</a></h2>
  106. <p>
  107. All current stories are developed by JMS, because only he knows where the
  108. overall story is going. JMS is looking at spec scripts, selecting writers
  109. based on their talent and understanding of the Babylon 5 universe, then giving
  110. out assigned stories. Babylon 5 is not accepting outside stories. Scripts not
  111. submitted through an agent will be returned unopened, as is standard practice.
  112. <p>
  113. <hr>
  114. <h2><a name="effect">What effect have fans had?</a></h2>
  115. The location of Babylon 5 is at Grid Epsilon 470,18,22 which corresponds
  116. to the original location of the Babylon 5 topic on GEnie (Page 470,
  117. CAT 18, Topic 22). The first mention of a planet's coordinates in
  118. "Mind War" were Grid Epsilon 471,18,25 which corresponds to a topic in
  119. the Babylon 5 Category on GEnie.
  120. <p>
  121. Partially due to fan response from those who saw the pilot movie or
  122. clips, some things in the pilot movie were changed before broadcast,
  123. and the series has been affected as well:
  124. <ul>
  125. <li>
  126. The voice of Delenn is Mira Furlan's voice without any processing and
  127. Delenn is female to begin with. Original plans were to electronically
  128. process her voice and have Delenn change sex during the series.
  129. <li>
  130. Some additional voice-over was done by Patricia Tallman to clarify one
  131. scene in the show with Kosh in the Medlab.
  132. <li>
  133. The use of ISN to provide exposition about events outside the station was
  134. suggested by Colin Stobbe on GEnie.
  135. <li>
  136. The branding of a Minbari that had similarities to a DS9 episode was kept
  137. after feedback from fans about it. It had been considered removing the
  138. branding scene and electronically wiping the brand from the rest of the
  139. episode. (This occurs in <a href="/lurk/guide/007.html">"The War Prayer"</a>).
  140. <li>
  141. When names submitted for a mega corporation and a mineral were rejected for
  142. legal reasons, JMS went to the GEnie B5 Category and asked for suggestions.
  143. The resulting names used are Quantium-40 for the mineral and Universal
  144. Terraform for the company. Q-40 is mentioned in
  145. <a href="/lurk/guide/005.html">"The Parliament of Dreams"</a> and
  146. <a href="/lurk/guide/006.html">"Mind War"</a>.
  147. The waiter mentioned in "Parliament" is named for David Strauss,
  148. who submitted Q-40.
  149. <li>
  150. Likewise, the name of the prospecting company in
  151. <a href="/lurk/guide/006.html">"Mind War,"</a>
  152. Universal Terraform, was suggested by a sysop on GEnie.
  153. <li>
  154. The denizens of "Downbelow" are called "lurkers," a term for users of
  155. computer bulletin-board systems who read messages but never post. The
  156. idea was originally suggested, in an indirect way, by Rob Furr on GEnie.
  157. <li>
  158. JMS is considering revamping or killing off n'grath based partly on the
  159. reaction by viewers.
  160. <li>
  161. Based on interest in the legal aspects of the Psi
  162. Corps, JMS indicated how some of this works in
  163. <a href="/lurk/guide/021.html">"The Quality of Mercy."</a>
  164. <li>
  165. In recognition of the Internet <cite>Babylon 5</cite> archive, the
  166. first-season episode
  167. <a href="/lurk/guide/019.html">"A Voice in the Wilderness, Part 2"</a>
  168. features an Earth Alliance ship called the Hyperion. (The Lurker's Guide
  169. was originally located on www.hyperion.com; the name had to change to
  170. www.midwinter.com in March 1997 after a legal dispute over the Hyperion
  171. name.)
