  4. Synopsis by Katrina Glerum (kat@midwinter.com)
  5. Once again the station mobilizes for war. The murder of 10,000
  6. refugees fleeing Proxima 3 has forced Sheridan to decide that it's
  7. time to retaliate against Clark.
  8. Sheridan calls a full Council meeting first thing in the morning. In
  9. return for the safety his White Star patrols have brought to uneasy
  10. borders, he declares all League World military treaties with Earth
  11. null and void. As Starfuries run drills outside, Ivanova requests that
  12. each government contribute a military vessel to the defense of the
  13. station. Other than that, they must take no part in the war.
  14. "We're going to take back our home. Or die trying," Captain Sheridan
  15. concludes.
  16. Marcus races through the station to the War Room with a data crystal
  17. that holds intelligence detailing the Earth Force blockade of Proxima
  18. 3. Of six destroyers, two were responsible for shooting down the
  19. transport.
  20. Meanwhile, even though Franklin admits little progress on freeing the
  21. Shadow-implanted telepaths, Sheridan demands that he get them mobile
  22. as quickly as possible for an imminent mission.
  23. To Ivanova he explains his plan for attacking Proxima 3. By offering
  24. the combatants a chance to surrender or defect, he will attempt to
  25. minimize the Earth Force losses; nevertheless he will destroy any ship
  26. that fights back.
  27. Vir is roused from a nightmare by Garibaldi at the door. When
  28. Garibaldi asks for Londo, Vir lets it slip out that the Ambassador has
  29. gone to speak with G'Kar, then divulges the plan to attack Earth. Vir
  30. is surprised that Garibaldi is disgusted with Sheridan's move. Even
  31. though he doesn't always agree with Londo, Vir says he continues to
  32. follow, because sometimes Londo's right.
  33. Close quarters maneuvers continue outside under Lt. Corwin's
  34. supervision. Ivanova orders the fighters to only accept commands that
  35. are encrypted with the code of the day. Corwin remarks that they
  36. should trust no one.
  37. "No," Ivanova remarks acerbically. "Trust Ivanova. Trust yourself.
  38. Anybody else? Shoot 'em."
  39. The destroyer Starfuries patrolling hyperspace near the Proxima 3 jump
  40. gate are oblivious to the fleet of White Stars gathering in the murky
  41. redness there. Marcus learns that the resistance on the planet's
  42. surface is being demolished by Clark's ground forces.
  43. G'Kar's writing is interrupted by Mollari's entrance. They take a
  44. couple of shots across each other 's bows until Mollari admits that he
  45. didn't come to fight but to talk. The past years have been very hard
  46. on both of them. G'Kar snorts in derision, but Mollari continues
  47. humbly, thanking G'Kar for his actions and endurance that set both of
  48. their worlds free, telling G'Kar that he has come to respect him
  49. deeply.
  50. G'Kar scorns both the thanks and the respect.
  51. Mollari forges ahead angrily. He is a patriot, he shouts, and yet,
  52. through ill judgment he himself became his own enemy. So can he
  53. possibly "understand who the enemy is?" Perhaps not. But he can
  54. understand friendship, and the humans of Babylon 5 have been friends.
  55. Thus he has convinced his government to put their full support behind
  56. Sheridan, and requests that G'Kar do the same. Pouring out two drinks,
  57. he proposes a toast "to the humans, and to the bridge that they
  58. created between us, in the hope for a better future, for both our
  59. worlds."
  60. As Mollari waits with glass raised, G'Kar pours his drink back in the
  61. bottle. With heavy disappointment, Mollari departs.
  62. Sheridan and Ivanova have the difficult task of prepping the Starfury
  63. crews for battle. They are told to defend themselves with deadly fire
  64. and come home alive, yet show mercy to any non-combatant.
  65. Sheridan departs for the front leaving Ivanova to command the station.
  66. His flagship White Star 2 sports newly painted Army of Light logos on
  67. the wings.
  68. The commander of the fleet blockading Proxima 3 orders two destroyers
  69. to attack the White Stars that jump out of hyperspace on the opposite
  70. side of the planet. When he recognizes the ships as Sheridan's he
  71. orders his destroyers to attack. Macdougan, the captain of the Vesta,
  72. engages John in a conversation about the legality of Clark's orders.
  73. When Macdougan refuses to enter the fray, fleet commander Hall grants
  74. a field promotion to Macdougan's second, a rank he enjoys for about 60
  75. seconds until the Vesta's crew ends it.
  76. The Pollux is destroyed, two vessels stand down, and another
  77. withdraws. Fearing a tribunal more than death, Captain Hall orders his
  78. crew to continue the fight until his own second relieves him of
  79. command and surrenders.
  80. Sheridan calls the captains of the surviving destroyers together and
  81. offers them the choice of going home or joining up. When they object
  82. to his methods he argues that they swore to protect Earth, that they
  83. work for all humans, not for Clark in particular. In the final
  84. analysis one ship withdraws, one joins the defense of Proxima 3, and
  85. two join Sheridan.
  86. As he drinks alone again in morose contemplation, Londo notices a shot
  87. raised to the lips of another nearby. Sternly G'Kar orders Londo to
  88. issue the joint statement of their worlds' support of Sheridan. He
  89. refuses to sign it on the same page though. G'Kar departs just as
  90. rapidly leaving the Ambassador choked with emotion.
  91. As the Voice of Resistance announces the victory and encourages other
  92. Earth Force vessels to defect, Garibaldi leaves the station for Mars
  93. vowing never to return.
